The boys from Van She have been told to not make any plans for the next year – which says it all really. With their debut album V due in June, the Modular four-piece are in the midst of an exhaustive national circuit to promote its lead single Cat and The Eye. Once that’s done, there’ll be press commitments, album showcases, international gigging…and another Australian tour for good measure.
Van She’s first full-length record has been a long time coming. Their massively popular 2005 EP sustained the band through many a festival slot, but last year they hot-footed it to London to make V happen. With the assistance of Arctic Monkeys producer Jim Abiss and an array of vintage gear, the album came together famously. With barely a moment’s respite, Van She were back on familiar shores (via a one-off show in Brazil) to support Daft Punk on their Nevereverland tour. Here ITM’s Jack Tregoning speaks to drummer Tomek about life as the new ‘It’ kids of indie-dance.
