Fiery Frenchman Sébastien Léger has covered plenty of ground in his decade-long production career. From his early EPs on labels like Dust Traxx to his recent Planets 12” series, he’s flitted between filtered house, Chicago-inspired grooves, deep techno, progressive and synthy electro. This chameleon-like quality has seen him picked up by everyone from Defected to Carl Cox’s imprint Intec; but Léger is happiest now with his own label Mistakes Music.

As the name suggests, Mistakes Music is all rolling with the happy accidents of the studio. Until quite recently, the producer proudly proclaimed he was a “100% hardware producer”. He now utilises Ableton Live, but vintage synthesisers and keyboards are his stock-in-trade. All the irregularities and unexpected glitches of that equipment is channelled into his music.

The 11 Planets 12”s were collected on a digital album last November, and since then Léger hasn’t slowed down. While he’s now put a stop to remixing despite his in-demand status (hello Justin Timberlake), the man is on a constant tour/studio cycle. And he’s still as easily-riled as ever. Claiming he left his native Paris for Amsterdam to escape a stagnant scene, Léger reserves no diplomacy for the Ed Banger electro movement. Here ITM’s Jack Tregoning speaks to the house veteran ahead of his Australian tour.
