STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

Traveling Australia as part of the 2008 Future Music Festival, the Silent Disco crew (DJ OD and DJ Steven Guts) have had a few weeks off to relax, before finishing up their antipodean visit this weekend at Melbourne’s International Comedy Festival. The Silent Disco was undoubtedly one of the hits of this year’s Future Music Festival, with a long line snaking out of the tent at each date on the tour, punters excitedly waiting throughout the day for their turn.

Although it’s a relatively simple concept, the Silent Disco’s success worldwide could arguably be put down to one main attributing factor; it’s bloody good fun. Upon entering the tent you’re given your own set of headphones, it’s then up to you to choose what music you hear, as you’re able to switch between two separate DJs, each playing a wildly different selection.

On the Future Music Festival tour Silent Disco originators OD and Guts took care of one channel, while locals in each city handled channel two. However, for the final event of their current Australian tour it’ll be up to OD and Guts to take the reins entirely, controlling one channel apiece. The result is likely to be rather surreal, but ultimately very amusing.

If you’re in Melbourne, be sure to check out the Silent Disco this Easter long weekend as part of the International Comedy Festival. It all goes down at the Hi Fi Bar & Ballroom, Thursday 20 March, Saturday 22 March and Sunday 23 March.

My crew and I loved the Silent Disco at Melbourne's FMF. At one point, DJ OD or it might have been DJ Steven Guts, played Thriller, RATM, Darude - Sandstorm and Zombie Nation in succession. It was certainly an unconventional mix but it was so much fun. The only problem was, I was tempted to sing along coz I didn't think anyone would be able to hear my awful singing voice. Unfortunately, a few people around me had taken their headphones off, so I got some weird looks!

Silent Disco was absolutley trippy at FMF in Brisbane. It was so strange to walk into the tent and see everyone grooving away with no music! But it was the best fun ever. One of the highlights of my day!
