STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
There’s no denying that DJs and producers on the deeper side of dance music – think your progressive and tech house types – have a tendency to take themselves rather seriously. The ‘chin-stroker’ image is one that’s been built up over quite a few years, but the SOS posse of Desyn Masiello, Omid 16b and Demi are on a mission to change all that.
The London-based trio are intent on bringing the fun back to deep electronic music, Omid even going so far as to publicly state he was giving up on ‘chin-stroking’ entirely. “I love it that you pulled me up on that one!” he laughed, when reminded of the quote as he spoke with ITM recently. “To some degree we have experimented with [our] sound a bit more. We went through the phase where we were playing a lot more… some people would say cheesier. It was just a bit more experimental.”
Their fresh approach is winning them massive props far and wide, with Australia’s very own scene leading compilation series Balance inviting them to put together their thirteenth installment. A triple CD, the team laboured over it for 6 months, and it’s gaining them rave reviews from the media and music fans alike. Heading to Australia to launch the CD with dates around the country this April, listen in to hear Omid’s thoughts on taking the deep progressive scene forward.
‘Balance 013’ is out now through EQ/Stomp. The SOS crew of Desyn Masiello, Omid 16b and Demi tour Australia this April, be sure to check them out:
Apr 4 – Shape, Perth
Apr 5 – Chinese Laundry, Sydney
Apr 6 – Trinity Bar, Canberra
