Are there any dance acts out there who rock harder than Australia’s Pendulum? Not likely. The Perth drum n’ bass act has been representin’ in Europe for the past few years, tearing apart some of its biggest clubs like Fabric on a regular basis, but they’ve got another ace up their sleeves. Over the past 12 months they’ve been hidden away attending to their devilish plans; not only laying down tracks for their highly anticipated follow-up album but also, figuring out how to take their live performance to the next level. And rest assured, there’s been a lot of thought put into it…
“Basically, there’s a shitload of technology involved,” the band says. “We’re running nine computers with Linux, and they’ve got a lot of the studio software that we use when we’re producing in the studio, but they’re running it live… We can use the same processing, we can use the same effects. The drummer will be playing the drums that we originally created in the studio, the guitarist will be playing the original guitar sounds… So we’re basically trying to recreate what we do in the studio live.”
And finally, we’ll be getting to see it for the very first time when Pendulum returns to Australia this month for an extensive national tour. And have no doubt, with their new album In Silico on the cusp of its release, these boys are going to be absolutely huge in 2008. ITM’s Angus Paterson talks to the band as they fire up their amps and laptops prepare to get rockin’.
Pendulum will be bringing it live this month, catch it at the following dates…
Apr 15th – Adelaide, Shores Complex
Apr 16th – Melbourne, Hi Fi Bar & Ballroom – presented by Civil Society & inthemix
Apr 17th – Sydney, The Metro – presented by Civil Society & inthemix
