If there’s any band where the moniker matches the music, it’s !!!. The sprawling unit is renowned for its kinetic, whirlwind live show, which will roll back into town for the We Love Sounds tour in June. !!! (the most common pronounciation is “chk, chk, chk”, but any syllable repeated thrice will do) blurs the edges of punk, funk and electronica with ease. The Brookyln band’s third album Myth Takes, arrived last year to resounding acclaim, and kicked off an exhaustive tour schedule.
But it’s onstage that !!! really shine, with the many members creating a juggernaut of sound. For the We Love Sounds tour two extra players have been called in, meaning there’s now 20 hands on deck. Who knows what could happen? ITM’s Jack Tregoning caught co-vocalist Nic Offer on a sunny Brooklyn day to talk about !!!’s latest studio ventures, and how hard it is to keep the whole clan in line.
