STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
When you consider that his dad is the proud owner of one of the UK’s largest record collections, it seems like it was almost predestined that Duke Dumont (real name Adam Dyment) would develop something of an unhealthy obsession with music. However not content to simply trainspot and collect records, he took the fixation one step beyond fandom by forging an enviable reputation as one of the dance music scene’s most exciting new producers.
Winning the Diesel U Music Award in 2006, the accolade put him in good stead to begin his career with the lineage of previous winners – such as Mylo, DJ Yoda and Infadels – speaking for itself. Faced with several record labels wishing to sign him more or less on the spot, Duke instead chose to hone his musical chops and he’s now releasing on some of the underground dance scene’s most revered labels.
His debut EP was unleashed on Tiga’s Turbo label in 2007, and it spawned one of the year’s biggest club hits with ‘Lean & Bounce’. He’s now put out his second release, an EP through Switch’s Dubsided imprint appropriately titled ‘Dominion Dubs’. Having playing Sydney and Melbourne for the first time last year, he’s also heading back down under in the coming weeks to take part in We Love Sounds shenanigans around the country.
Duke Dumont plays selected We Love Sounds dates in May and June, as well as his own solo club dates:
May 30 – We Love Sounds at Empire, Brisbane
May 31 – Shape, Perth
Jun 7 – We Love Sounds, Melbourne
Jun 8 – We Love Sounds, Sydney
