Norway may be a tad removed from the central hub of Europe, but it’s certainly no outsider in the dance music department. Alongside sometime-collaborator Prins Thomas, Hans Peter Lindstrøm has helped make his country the capital of so-called ‘space disco’. And this June, the man will play live in Australia for the first time on the We Love Sounds tour.
Lindstrøm is perhaps best known for the woozy, atmospheric I Feel Space, released on Playhouse in 2005. His output since then – both on his own and alongside Thomas – has been truly varied, with few recycled tricks. The Nordic wunderkind has been holed up in a studio recently, finessing his next album Where You Go I Go Too. In characteristically eccentric style, the record is comprised of only three extended tracks, the first clocking in at 29 minutes. Lindstrøm hopes each “composition” will hold the listener for its full duration. Given the calibre of his productions, it’s likely he’ll get his wish.
Armed with “laptop and keyboard”, Lindstrøm may just be the dark horse of the We Love Sounds festivals. He spoke to ITM’s Jack Tregoning from his studio in Oslo.
Don’t miss Lindstrøm on his first-ever tour of Australia for We Love Sounds.
