You may know him as one of the kingpins behind the Sounds crew, the promotion company responsible for the mega We Love Sounds festival, as well as boutique events like Minimal Fuss and Sounds Live. You may know him as one of the guys responsible for bringing A-grade names like Ben Watt, James Zabiela, Tiefschwartz and many more to Australia. Or instead, you might know him as leading lights that can take credit for pushing credible underground dance in our country. But something that’s easy to lose sight of is the fact that beyond all that, Ben Korbel remains a damn fine DJ and an impeccable music selector.
But now, it’s Ben’s time to return to the spotlight again. The crew behind the acclaimed Balance series have secured his talents to mix the latest installment of its special offshoot Balance pres. Electric, and it sees him throwing down an expertly blended collection of deep house and techno, featuring productions from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Swayzak, Pikaya, Rob Mello and more. With the We Love Sounds tour in full swing around the country, ITM’s Angus Paterson talks to Ben Korbel.
