When using an over-wrought phrase like ‘he’s got his fingers in a lot of pies’ it can often feel a little exaggerated. That’s not to say that there’s people out there who are lazy (or adept at talking up their achievements…), it’s just when you say it about a guy like Goodwill his pies look bigger, taste better and come in more flavours than the rivals. Enough with the pastry-analogy, though, because Goodwill has a lot more interesting things on his mind, and he’s only too happy to share them when he spoke with inthemix recently.
With a brand new installment in his long-standing run of Ministry of Sound mix CDs in stores now – ‘Sessions Five’, put together alongside the reigning princes of pop-dance The Potbelleez – Goodwill is riding high on a wave of positive public opinion. It seems that punters more accustomed to chin-stroking are impressed by the ‘underground’ approach he’s taken on the mix, not something usually attributed to a commercial entity like Ministry of Sound. “I always have complete freedom. I can’t remember a time where Ministry forced a record on me,” Goodwill counters when asked about his direction taken on ‘Sessions Five’. “I just think it’s indicative of what’s going on [in the scene]. Every CD I do I just do exactly what I’m playing in clubs at the time.”
The producer, remixer, radio host and frequently-flying DJ is now on the campaign trail to spread the good word of ‘Sessions Five’ nationwide, undertaking a grueling 10-week tour with The Potbelleez that sees them playing capital cities and major regional centers around Australia through until mid-August. ‘Sessions Five’ is also available now in all good CD stores through Ministry of Sound/Universal.
