STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
With the 2008 inthemix50 launching this week, The Potbelleez are one act who it would be a safe be to assume they’ll be launching themselves up at least a few places when the votes are finally tallied. After all, their massive summer hit Don’t Hold Back achieved platinum sales in Australia with more than 70,000 copies sold, and has seen the duo transformed into one of the country’s most in-demand acts. But wherever they end up placing, one thing is for certain – they won’t be making a repeat appearance on this year’s Big Brother finale. Those days are over baby.
“There’ll be no more ‘Next Hot Model’ or ‘Big Brother’ or any of this kind of crap. We turned down ‘So You Think You Can Dance’; we just have to put a line in the sand.” But even with such high-profile television appearances taken off the agenda, you can be sure these boys will still be pretty busy for a long time to come.
In addition to charming the nation and racking up those inthemix50 votes, The Potbelleez are back to prove they’re more than a one-hit wonder. They recently mixed Ministry of Sound’s Sessions 5 alongside Goodwill, and they’re currently in the midst of a 10-week nationwide tour. What’s more, they’re spending any spare waking moment outside the clubs in their studio, busily working on their anticipated debut album. It’s set to drop later this year, but for their eager fans they recently offered up its next single Are You With Me. And, if early reactions to it are anything to go by it’s destined to scale similar heights to their last release.
ITM’s Tim Hardaker speaks with Dave Goode from The Potbelleez in part 2 of our interview (If you missed Part 1, click HERE to have a listen).
If the Potbelleez are your favourite Australian DJs or producers, make sure you vote for them in this year’s Sony inthemix50.
Sessions 5 is out now through Ministry of Sound/Universal. Be sure to catch The Potbelleez and Goodwill as they continue their tour around Australia!
