STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
The lads from Good Buddha have reached new personal horizons with their album Hit the Sky Running. After developing their sound on their previous Skillathon and Futurehistrix albums, they knew they wanted to take their soulful hip hop grooves a step further. Taking on several new members last year and bunkering down in a studio in Byron Bay, they were determined to make it happen.
And the results speak for themselves, as Hit the Sky Running is their most eclectic and full realised album to date. While retaining that unique Good Buddha sound that their fans know and love, the live funk influence is stronger than ever and the second half of the album veers off in an almost experimental direction, throwing all manner of percussive, tribal, reggae and global grooves into the mix. “We’ve been wanting to make this album for a while, but probably weren’t really ready… We were always a tight live band, but we knew we couldn’t replicate that in the studio.” And it was that live, eclectic funk-heavy vibe they were hoping to capture on the new album.
ITM’s Angus Paterson talks to Good Buddha as the band prepare to hit the road for their most extensive national tour yet.
