STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

Things have been moving at a breakneck pace for Pnau since the release of their third album. Propelled by a new reserve of hedonistic party anthems, the Sydney-bred duo have patented dancing strawberries, won over Elton John and even entertained dance music intelligentsia Mel and Kochie on Sunrise. In short, Pnau are thinking big.

It hasn’t all been overnight adulation for Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes, though. The guys have finessed their sound over 15-odd years and two previous albums, Sambanova and Again. The partnership has often been a volatile one, but it’s never stopped being fertile. And things are really, err, peaking right now. Pnau’s phantasmagoric ‘We Are Back’ tour in April had the whole country raving, and the UK festival circuit is catching on too. When ITM tracked down Mayes, the duo had just scrambled some minds at Glastonbury’s Pussy Parlour and packed out a 3,000-capacity tent at Lovebox. Now they’re coming home to play a sundown set at Splendour In The Grass and the biggest headline shows of their career. ITM’s Jack Tregoning hears all about it.

Don’t miss Pnau at the height of their powers on ‘The Embrace Tour’.
