STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

It’s no great exaggeration to cite David and Stephen Dewaele as two of the most important figures in dance music today. As the nucleus of Soulwax and 2manydjs, the Belgian brothers have blazed a trail since the mid 90s; they’re credited with single-handedly kicking off the dance scene’s fixation with mash-ups courtesy of their Radio Soulwax mix CDs, and they also helped to further bridge the divide between electronica and rock music with their incendiary live shows.

Since 2005 Soulwax have more or less lived life on the road, and their exhaustive touring brought them to Australia twice; debuting the live band in 2006 with the Big Day Out and then showing us Nite Versions in 2007 with the V Festival. It seems somewhat ironic that they made a documentary film about their gruelling tour, and then to support its release hit the road for another run of live shows around the globe. Stephen Dewaele, of course, has his own rather droll take on the situation. “How about doing interviews about it [the DVD],” he laughs when speaking with ITM’s Tim Hardaker. “It’s like giving a presentation on a manual!”

Currently in Australia, the Soulwax and 2manydjs juggernaut is partway through their Australian tour for Parklife. Listen in for part 2 of our interview with Stephen Dewaele, and if you missed part 1 click here to check it out!

Soulwax’s new DVD Part Of The Weekend Never Dies is out now through PIAS/Liberator. Don’t miss them at the final Parklife dates this weekend; Sat Oct 4th – Brisbane and Sun Oct 5th – Sydney (both sold out!)
