STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

Bringing their live show to Australia for the first time as part of the Parklife festival, Neon Neon is a band with a unique makeup. Hip hop producer Boom Bip and Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys came together through a shared love of 80s pop, turning out one of the most original albums of the year thus far, Stainless Style. It even earned them a nomination for the much-touted Mercury Prize, alongside such prestigious company as Radiohead, Burial and The Last Shadow Puppets.

Given the album’s exuberant electro-pop feel, a Neon Neon live show is all in the name of fun. The touring band (Rhys, Boom Bip and various ring-ins, including Har Mar Superstar) has already conquered the likes of Glastonbury, Sonar and Fuji Rock so expect them to know how to work a festival. Here ITM’s Jack Tregoning chats to Boom Bip about what’s next for the unlikely duo.

Neon Neon’s album Stainless Style is available now through Lex/Inertia. Make sure to catch them at the final Parklife dates this weekend; Sat Oct 4th – Brisbane and Sun Oct 5th – Sydney (both sold out!)
