STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
While flavour-of-the-minute DJs come and go, Mr C has remained a true stalwart of the London underground scene. He’s now synonymous with very late sets on twisted dancefloors, but the man first found recognition as vocalist of 90s rave group The Shamen. Their defining hit Ebeneezer Goode made no secret of its allegiances, with the media-baiting catch-cry, “E’s are good”. And he’s never lost that sense of mischief.
One of Mr C’s crowning achievements is The End Club, which he opened alongside Layo Paskin of Layo & Bushwacka fame in 1995. It has gone on to set a benchmark for other London institutions to follow, touting forward-thinking line-ups, immaculate sound and unerring attention to detail. Sadly The End will close its doors in January 2009, but Mr C is set to keep its spirit alive. DJing is his main focus now – and he’s still one of the best tech house jocks out there. Here ITM’s Jack Tregoning tracks down the ever-urbane Mr C ahead of his much-belated return to Australia.
