STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

You know that the year is almost through when Ministry of Sound’s Annual hits record stores. It’s a tell tale sign that summer’s almost here, and it proves to be the perfect soundtrack for many a dance fan around Australia. In keeping with the year end theme, when inthemix spoke with Goodwill recently about his new CD we asked about his highlight for 2008.

“Overwhelming this year was going to Ibiza, because I’ve said no to going there for five years,” he laughed. “Space had an open offer for me to do a small residency there for years and I’ve always said no, because I wasn’t in the mood to go and hang out with English people… but I went this year and played for Pacha and it freaked me out, that place is incredible! All the clubs are great, it was the best gig of the year for me.” That’s all well and good, of course, but what about the lowlights? “I suppose the underwhelming thing is what’s happening in clubland. I don’t think enough people are supporting nights and festivals are taking over. That’s what sucks!”

It’s a feeling that’s shared by many in the club scene right now, and Goodwill’s in a better position than most to commentate, having built his reputation on years of solid touring and residency work. “You speak to a band like Sneaky or The Presets and those guys can fill their weekends now throughout the whole of summer with Australian festivals. Even regional towns have what they call festivals, and Sydney is just awash with them. I don’t think [any] festivals will get cancelled, but I think by the end of the summer there’ll be a few promoters think, ‘why did we do such a big festival this time?’”
