STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
So the last mix CD was called LSD: Light Sound Dance and their most recent is D is for Disco, E is for Dancing... it doesn’t take a genius to work out what the Bang Gang DJs have on their mind when it comes to choosing titles, right? Speaking with Jaime Doom recently, inthemix got the lowdown on how they settled on naming their new 70 track opus.
“Gus [Da Hoodratt] was like, ‘I’ve got the best title, how about this,’ and I was like, ‘wow, it is a really good title’,” Jaime laughs, before pondering. “But do we really want to make another drug reference? We’ve done it for 5 years, people might be getting sick of it… In the end we were thought, fuck it, it’s such a funny and retarded title let’s just use it. It sums up the styles of music, one [disc] is disco and one is dancing.” A case of ‘two birds with one stone’ if ever we heard it.
Over their time on the club scene the Bang Gang posse have well and truly established themselves as doyens of party excess nationwide. More than just a rag tag collective of DJs, they’ve been responsible for running their own – now defunct, but still legendary – club night, as well as a fast growing independent label. Indeed they’re all busy boys, individually pursuing various solo and collaborative projects in addition to responsibilities as the Bang Gang.
Having crisscrossed the country over the past month on the launch tour for D is for Disco, E is for Dancing, they’ll soon back up nationwide at the Nevereverland festival, hosting their own arena with Canyons, the Bumblebeez, Andee Frost and the Bag Raiders. Oh and the Bang Gang crew – Ajax, Doom, Beni and Hoodrat – of course.
D is for Disco, E is for Dancing is out now through Modular/Universal. Don’t forget you can catch the boys at Nevereverland this month:
Sat Dec 13 – Hordern & Surrounds, Sydney
Sun Dec 14 – Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne
Sat Dec 20 – Riverstage, Brisbane
Sun Dec 21 – Belvoir Amphitheatre, Perth
