STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
Without question 2008 has been THE year for indie-dance’s most daring duo The Presets. Kim and Julian’s sophomore album Apocalypso well and truly launched them into the mainstream music stratosphere, taking their influence far beyond their roots in the club and dance scene. Fortunately the boys have kept their feet on the ground throughout it all, and as a result they’ve managed to retain a strong and healthy following amongst dance fans nationwide.
Speaking with inthemix ahead of their headline spot at Modular’s 10th anniversary shindig Nevereverland this month, Julian was calm and rested after a nonstop year on the road. Here he speaks about a few of their more interesting shows of 2008 – including the world’s biggest leather and fetish party in San Francisco, and, err, Splendour in the Grass! – as well as the feeling of having their album named the year’s best at the recent ARIA Awards.
“We hadn’t been home for most of the year so we were pretty out of touch with what was happening here. Some people around us were quietly confident, but we certainly weren’t,” Julian says, looking back on their highly publicised win. “I guess when you hear your name called as the best record of the year it is pretty crazy, because it really is a world that we’re not used to being a part of. It was quiet an emotional night!”
