STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEWS
2007 was a battleground of sorts for Marine Parade leader Adam Freeland – to finally put to bed the perception that he’s a certain kind of DJ who plays a certain kind of music. Once upon a time Freeland was known as a ‘nu-school breaks’ DJ, but these days a 4/4 beat is just as likely to be heard in one of his sets as a broken one, and you’re just as likely to hear the sounds of electro and techno as you are breaks. His widely discussed compilation for the Global Underground reflected this approach, and Freeland tells ITM that he’s captured plenty of tactical ground in 2008.
“The gigs seem to rock, and I guess that’s the only way you can really seem to tell,” he shared with ITM. “Am I getting to play with a lot of the artists that I really respect? Definitely, and I’m really excited about next year now because I’ve spent a lot of time producing and I’ve got a new record done. 2009 is going to be really exciting because it’s a whole step in a different direction again.”
Wanna get a feel for the sounds that Adam Freeland will be pushing in 2009? You’ll get your chance when he plays at some of the country’s biggest events and festivals over the New Year period. ITM’s Angus Paterson pins him down to find out more.
