STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
If you’re listening to this interview, there’s a good chance that you’ve already caught Dutch trance master Ferry Corsten smashing it apart at the Summadayze festival and afterparty on New Years Day in Melbourne. He’s certainly back in a big way, but his Australian tour comes at the end of an unusually quiet 12 months for Ferry. However, it’s been for good reason: for most of ‘08, he was holed up in his studio nailing down his third artist album Twice In a Blue Moon. It’s certainly proved worth a little bit of ‘Ferry deprivation’ for all his fans, ranking extremely high in ITM’s Top 20 Releases of 2008! and it’s arguably his best and most fully realised album yet.
“Whereas on my previous album L.E.F. there was a house track on the one hand and a trance track on the other, here all these different styles are combined into the single track,” Ferry told ITM. “It’s a lot more mature, and it’s a little more polished too… And I’ve actually been heading back over to the more melodic side of things.”
And he’s in the country right now. “I’m really psyched, and I’m gonna be bringing the energy, that’s for sure,” he told ITM earlier this year, and he proved his mettle on New Years Day in Melbourne. He’s only getting started though, as he’s got dates left at long-running Sydney club night Sublime as well as two highly-anticipated performances at the Summafieldayze and Summadayze festivals in the Gold Coast and Perth respectively, which could very well see him go back to back with fellow trance icon Armin van Buuren. ITM’s Angus Paterson tries to find out more, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens this weekend…
Don’t forget to also check out part 1 the ITM interview! Twice In a Blue Moon is out now through Stomp, and you can catch Ferry Corsten at his remaining shows this weekend…
