Without question 2008 was THE year for indie-dance’s most daring duo The Presets. Kim and Julian’s sophomore album Apocalypso well and truly launched them into the mainstream music stratosphere, taking their influence far beyond their roots in the club and dance scene. Fortunately the boys have kept their feet on the ground throughout it all, and as a result they’ve managed to retain a strong and healthy following amongst dance fans nationwide.
Talking with inthemix late in 2008, Julian was calm and rested after a non-stop year on the road. He spoke about the high and low points of the previous year, and how they’d remained grounded while all the requisite craziness of the rock & roll lifestyle went on around them. “When I got sick in America and then we came home and I still wasn’t well and we had to postpone some of our Australian shows, that really sucked,” Julian remarks when looking back at one of 2008’s low periods.
“Obviously that was our big moment, our home coming! We had our big record and we were really looking forward to having some great shows here. [It made you realise] how fragile the whole thing can be. That was really quite a distressing time.” After a summer spent relaxing, the boys are gearing up to do the Good Vibrations Festival tour next month, and we can hardly wait.
