STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
Were you at the Good Vibrations Festival in Sydney and Melbourne over the weekend? If you were taking shelter under the canvas roof of the Laundry tent, then the set from UK DJ/producer duo Stanton Warriors was likely one of your highlights. The pair of Dominic B and Mark Yardley are touring off the back of last year’s Stanton Sessions Vol. 3, a release that drew together all of the originals, edits, remixes and redubs they’d been rocking over the previous 18 months, and it took the crown as one of last year’s most groundbreaking dance releases.
Where Stanton Sessions Vol. 3 got it so right was its innovative approach in inviting different sounds and genres into the breakbeat fold, and the Stantons say they’re committed to showing the way forward for the scene. “We are flying the flag. We haven’t given in, we’re not playing 30 per cent house in our sets or token dubstep tunes. We’re sticking with our formula of broken beats 100 per cent… When all is said and done, we’ve put a lot of years, time and effort into the sound. We’re in it for life, and we definitely want to see the whole thing move forward.”
In part two of our conversation with the Stanton Warriors, ITM’s Angus Paterson speaks to Dominic B about bringing back breakbeat, what we can expect from their remaining shows on the Good Vibrations tour, as well as grabbing some tasty details as to what we can expect from their new artist album that’s due later this year.
Don’t forget to check out part 1 of our conversation with the Stanton Warriors, and catch them on their remaining shows on the Good Vibrations tour next weekend, presented by inthemix!
