STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
How do you come off the peak of a lifetime, but still maintain the drive and consistency necessary to keep things moving forward? This is the question the trance scene is asking itself at the moment after enjoying one helluva year in 2008, but Holland’s Sander van Doorn reckons he has the answer.
“Trance has been growing for many years, and last year was a big peak,” Sander told ITM recently, “with a lot of producers opening their eyes that you can produce a melodic track with a lot of feeling, but maybe at a slower pace. This made trance expand into a lot more interesting style of music, and I think it will keep on progressing. There are a lot of new up-and-coming producers who are setting their bases at this stage, and I think it will keep on growing for the coming years.”
Always pushing out against the boundaries, Sander’s established himself as somewhat of a mascot for the ‘nu-trance’ sound. Tech house was heavily influencing producers in the second half of last year, with a minimal edge gradually creeping into proceedings recently, but Sander reckons we’ll see the return of a hard techno drive in the next few months. Whatever eventuates, his Australian fans are about to be be treated to the second tour from the Dutch master in less than six months. ITM’s Angus Paterson talks to Sander van Doorn about his massive tour with Trance Energy this Easter.
Sander van Doorn tours Australia with Trance Energy in April:
Thu 9 Apr – Sydney, Hordern Pavilion & Surrounds
Fri 10 Apr – Melbourne, Calder Park Thunderdome
Sat 11 Apr – Brisbane, Riverstage.
Sun 12 Apr – Perth, Belvoir Amphitheatre
