Anja Schneider [Audio]: The Berlin spirit

Anja Schneider has Berlin in her blood. A resident of the German capital since 1994, she has become engrained in the city’s electronic music identity. Schneider is a true multi-tasker; balancing her various pursuits as a radio presenter, gigging DJ, mentor, producer and label boss. Her Mobilee Records imprint has come a long way in its relatively short life, fostering some of the finest names in house like Sebo K, Dan Curtin, Exercise One and Pan-Pot. As a producer herself, Schneider enjoys the input of labelmates, collaborating on a handful of Mobilee’s most sought-after releases.

With all these commitments keeping her close to home, the techno tastemaker is a regular fixture at revered Berlin haunts Watergate and Club Weekend. An Anja Schneider DJ set is deep, propulsive and laced with groove. And this June, she’s making her debut Australian visit on the invitation of We Love Sounds and Winter Sound System. Ahead of the tour, she speaks to ITM’s Jack Tregoning about life as Berlin’s leading lady.
