STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
The monolithic rise of Toolroom Records to become one of the world’s greatest house music labels has been both swift and masterfully executed. The imprint’s big-room house sound strikes the perfect balance between accessibility and underground credibility, and leading the charge is founder/owner Mark Knight who says the label will be stepping up its presence in Australia very soon.
Partnering up with local dance brand Onelove for Australian distribution of its releases, the first of which is Mark Knight’s own superb new Toolroom Knights mix compilation, we can expect to be hearing a lot more over the next 12 months.
“We’re doing all the key festivals in Europe, like Global Gathering in the UK and Dance Valley in Holland where we have our own arenas,” Mark told ITM. “So hopefully we can be part of the touring festival brigade in Oz, because our sound very much lends towards that sort of thing. Teaming up with the right partner will definitely get us a foot in the door… And I think the festivals are where it would figure best for us, for our sound and the DJs involved.”
inthemix reckons that more of Toolroom Records in Australia can only be a good thing. ITM’s Angus Paterson talks to the label’s leader Mark Knight about what’s big in house music this year, the label’s calculated attack on the Australian market as well as when we might see him back in the country.
Toolroom Knights, mixed by Mark Knight 2.0 is out now in Australia through Onelove. Check out Part 1 of ITM’s interview with Mark Knight!
