One of the year’s biggest festival tours Parklife is literally just around the corner, and San Francisco native Claude VonStroke AKA Barclay Crenshaw is locked and ready to bring the ‘Earth’ stage home – his record bag packed to overflowing with a fresh bunch of tunes. His brand new album Bird Brain is just about to be released on his Dirty Bird imprint, and you can expect him to be bringing the house down, as it represents the best realization of his trademark quirky techno sound that we’ve heard yet.
“I definitely wanted to make more of a cohesive album this time,” he told ITM. “I do think it’s a little bit more refined… It’s been scrubbed and sanded since the first one. It’s a little smoother overall, the sound, even though it still has that grungy, funky fun edge in a lot of the tracks. It’s an easier overall listen.”
Want a sample of what to expect? Have a listen to the latest episode of the ITM Podcast, which features the funked-up vocals of Bootsy Collins with Greasy Beat, which is a proper slice of the leftfield techno formula that Claude VonStroke has perfected with Bird Brain. ITM’s Angus Paterson chats to the big man about what he’s got planned for the Parklife tour over the next two weekends.
Claude VonStroke’s Bird Brain is out in Australia on Ministry of Sound in November. The national Parklife tour is proudly presented by ITM! Keep your eyes peeled to our Festival Page at inthemix.com.au/parklife and check out the national tour dates below…
