Dubfire’s transformation since leaving Deep Dish several years ago from a house-proud DJ/producer into a prince of techno darkness has been absolute, and while there’s been mutterings online on his ‘authenticity’, being given the stamp of approval from the iconic Sven Vath and his revered Cocoon stable counts as an impressive indication that he’s been embraced by the techno fraternity. He was a regular at Cocoon’s night at Space in Ibiza this season, and he’s mixed the new Ten Years Cocoon Ibiza CD alongside minimal heavyweight Loco Dice.
“As Deep Dish we did a remix for Sven back in the mid 90s,” Dubfire told ITM. “Our lawyer who we’d worked with since day one had grown up in Germany and used to tell us about going to Dorian Grey and hearing Sven Vath and his marathon sets, and I’d read everything there was to read in the music magazines. So working with him, you feel like you’re amongst loyalty. He commands the room whenever he walks into it, and he has a very dominant personality. I think that’s also why people call him Pappa Sven,” he laughed.
Following the news that Dubfire will be back in the country for Future Music Festival next year, ITM’s Angus Paterson ITM talks to the production genius about being embraced by the Cocoon.
Ten Years Cocoon Ibiza: Dubfire + Loco Dice In The Mix is out now in Australia through Stomp.
