STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
If you’ve only become aware of John Dahlback’s slick, pumping house sounds over the past 12 months via anthems like Pyramid, then you might be surprised to discover that he has a heritage as a DJ/producer that stretches way back to the beginning of the decade. Though up until recently, techno was his bread and butter. What inspired the change?
“I wanted to do something different,” John told ITM. “I came up with strong melodies and proper basslines, and I think this has become a signature for me now.” It’s a change in direction that’s seen his popularity skyrocket in the past year, and John says he’s got house music to thank for his recent success. “If you have a good groove, you approach more people and you get a better response. I mean, I certainly did after changing into house music.”
It’s a reinvention that has seen him join an amazing heritage of house music producers in his country, joining of course names like the Swedish House Mafia, and he was one of the most heavily-hyped names on this year’s Stereosonic lineup when it was announced earlier this year. Here he chats to ITM’s Angus Paterson about the Stereosonic tour, what we can expect form his sets as well as his journey to becoming house proud.
Hear John Dahlback’s latest single Autumn in ITM’s special Stereosonic themed podcast. He also mixes a disc on Onelove: Mobile Disco 2010, which hits the stores on November 27th.
