STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

22-year-old Afrojack (AKA Nick van de Wall) is having the time of his life, and you would be to if you were flying in private jets with the worlds biggest DJs. Since downloading and teaching himself how to use audio production program Fruit Loops at the age of 11, Afrojack has gone on to become a chart topping electro/house producer, remixer and label owner.

Don’t be jealous though – this kid works hard. At just 18, Afrojack waved goodbye to mum and dfad and set off to the island of Crete in Greece armed with determination, a catalogue of music and a return flight (just in case it didn’t work out). Lucky for Afrojack the experience paid off and in 2007, on his return to The Netherlands, the then 19-year-old found himself at 3rd position on the Dutch dance charts with his debut track Afrojack – In Your Face, an achievement he credits to friends and mentors Sidney Samson and Laidback Luke.

Two years and hours spent in the studio producing original tracks, collaborations and remixes later and it’s clear that Afrojack is playing with the big kids now – take one look at his twitter page and you’ll see friendly and work related banter back and forth between the 22-year-old and superstars like David Guetta, Steve Angello, Diplo, Boris Dlugosch and Steve Aoki.

Despite his quick rise to the top, Afrojack remains focused and determined, aware that he can’t let the excitement of his progressing career get in the way of working. Currently in Australia as part of the Ministry of Sound’s Jacked Tour, Afrojack took some time out to chat with ITM’s Melanie Mahoney about his journey thus far and his plans for the future….

Afrojack mixes The Underground 2010 along with Bass Kleph, out on Ministry of Sound on February 12th. Catch him on your this weekend…

Friday 22 January – Metro City, Perth
Saturday 23 January – Family Nightclub, Brisbane
Sunday 24 January – Ivy, Sydney (daytime)
Monday 25 January – HQ Nightclub, Adelaide
Tuesday 26 January – Billboard, Melbourne

The application would be Fruity Loops. Fruit Loops is the breakfast cereal. Thanks for the interview though!
