For Sydney-bred DJ Mo’funk, taking a trip to Ibiza in 2007 was a very smart move. The natural-born selector instantly struck a chord with the people at Pacha, who set him up with a residency. Mo is now into his fourth season on the White Isle, where his wide-reaching musical knowledge and technical nous has made him an indispensible fixture for several clubs.

In addition to Pacha, his 2011 commitments include a residency with Carl Cox’s ‘The Revolution’ night at Space, a role as ambassador for Pioneer, and back-to-back marathon sets with Mr Doris on the We Love… terrace.

A long-time inthemix identity, Mo’ has dropped an exclusive mix on ITM-FM for us, recorded live at Pete Tong’s Pacha night It’s All Gone. He also brought us up-to-date with his summer adventures.

So, Mo, tell us where in the world you are right now, and what are you up to?
I’m back in my home away from home, Ibiza! Right now, it’s my night off, only a month into the season and it’s already rare to see a night off the turntables. Chillin’ at the villa, talking to my family at inthemix…

Before we talk Ibiza, tell us some of the highlights of your US tour earlier this year?
This US trip was fun, the WMC in Miami this year was another classic. Fun was had at the Pacha Pool Party at the Shelbourne with Jazzy Jeff and crew. This was followed by a set at Pacha NYC for Erick Morillo’s b’day, yet another biggie! Aside from a few other gigs, I had loads of fun seeing a tonne of concerts from Prince, Lauryn Hill, DJ Quik, Snoop and a whole bunch more. Here is a video of some of the fun.

You’re doing all sorts of things in Ibiza this summer. How was the We Love… opening party on 12 June and how would you describe the atmosphere this season?
This is my fourth straight season here on the island. I love it, many people talk about the special and unique elements of this place. If you love music – then this is one super unique destination that must be visited.

We Love…Space opening was major; I get to spin back-to-back with one of my fave residents here; Mr Doris – we spin all night together on the legendary Sunset Terrace for After Dark. It’s great as I get to expand my musical know-how, with sounds ranging from Latin, broken beat and leftfield.

Tell us about your involvement with Carl Cox at Space this summer?
I’m very fortunate to be asked to be one of the residents for the iconic party at Space on Tuesdays. It all kicks off tonight for Carl Cox’s opening party, I’ll be spinning all night on the Premier Etage. Carl is doing an extended 10 hour set! Wow!

You’re at Pacha most nights of the week, playing marathon sets. How much musical ground are you able to cover over those long sessions?
Pacha is my home. Danny and Mark gave me my first taste of the DJ dream when I first came here back in ‘07 – I have been a resident for the club ever since. It’s nothing short of amazing being here!

I get to play my whole range of sounds on the Rooftop Terrace of Pacha. It’s an all night affair so it’s great to have the freedom to do what I do. This year at Pacha it’s been great as I, along with fellow resident Andy Baxter, have been chosen to rep Pioneer. Being the spokesman for all the new gear Pioneer is currently releasing, I get to take home some Pioneer loot too! Woo!
