It’s been over a year since Dutch heavy Marco V paid us a visit, and this Spring he’s set to lead the Godskitchen tour. The DJ is certainly in good practice. The Northern summer is in full swing and Marco’s more in-demand than ever, darting between clubs and festival stages every weekend. On the immediate horizon is a spot in the ENERGY arena at Mysteryland and regular dispatches to Ibiza for his Gatecrasher residency – each set requiring a different side to Marco V.

However, it’s the studio that keeps the Dutchman busiest, turning out remixes and originals at a prodigious rate. As he tells inthemix, his greatest thrill is seeing a dancefloor ignite to one of his own creations. With the Godskitchen shows fast approaching, we got on the phone with the tour’s headliner to talk about the best bits of his job and why his view of the DJ Mag Top 100 doesn’t exactly line up with John Askew’s.

A broad question first up. What are you hoping to achieve this year?
I’ve learnt from the past not to make too many plans. I like to go with the flow and see where things take me. I’ve been in the business for a while already, and I’ve seen a lot of things and I did a lot of things. I’ve released a new remix album and I did a nice collaboration with a few people here in Holland. It’s going really well.

This year’s Godskitchen tour features Richard Durand, Ben Gold and John Askew. Who are you most excited to play with?
I like them all to be honest. They all play totally different stuff to what I’m doing. They’re all good DJs, but obviously I’ll spend most of my time with Richard of course, because he is Dutch also. It looks like it’s going to be a good tour.

I really like to play in Australia; people are really up for it, always. They always seem to know the music… if I’m playing one of my own tunes or somebody else’s, someone is always singing in the crowd.

What is your ideal set time?
I like to play in the middle of the evening. I think my music fits best for that. I’ll see when I get there, because it also depends on the club or the venue, it’s all different. It all depends on the night!

What is that climax track you can’t wait to play?
The thing is, every time I go behind the decks, I’m most excited to play what I just produced in the studio. I want to see how the crowd reacts to that. Every week we fix something in the studio that I like to play. Obviously I have some really good tracks in my playlist. But names, I’m so bad with names! If I was in front of my laptop I could go, “Oh that’s a good one, that’s a good one, that’s a good one!” but to pop a few names now, I just can’t.
