Parklife has pulled together a blockbuster line-up in 2011, with live acts leading the way. Refreshingly, we’ll be experiencing some shows for the first time, while others have been away from these parts for too long. With much to buzz about, the inthemix Editors daverh and JackT decided to delve deeper into a host of the performances we’ll see lighting up the stage this spring.
Death From Above 1979
With heavy dance rock duo Death From Above calling it quits in 2006, the closest many Australian fans thought they’d get to seeing the Canadians again would be at a MSTRKRFT show, Jesse F. Keeler’s post-break-up group.
But with a live reunion kicking off this year Parklife’s giving us both DFA1979 and MSTRKRFT on the same bill, meaning JFK’s going to be sweating it our harder than the kids in the front row. Which, going by some of the videos from their recent live shows, is no small feat.
Sebastien Tellier
We can’t quite believe French eccentric-to-beat Sebastien Tellier has been enticed to these parts. Parklife will be his first tour of Australia, and it’s anyone’s guess when the next one will be. There’s enough slinky Gallic synth-pop in his back catalogue to fill many a festival time-slot. Needless to say, he’s a one-of-a-kind live performer as well.
Ahead of this tour, Tellier sat down with local magazine Oyster at a café in Paris to talk about all manner of things. Along the way, he revealed that a new album is scheduled for 2012, with Ed Banger star Mr Flash in the producer’s chair.
Oyster also got a telling quote from Midnight Juggernauts man Vincent Vendetta about playing live with Tellier. “We once played a gig together in the north of France which concluded with him rolling on the floor and making love to the monitors on stage,” Vendetta recalls. “It’s funny watching an audience respond to a man caressing a large, inanimate speaker-box for five minutes.” Count us in.
