Every time inthemix gets on the phone to Diplo, he’s got a mountain of projects on the go. When we call him up on the eve of his Parklife jaunt, his ‘In’ tray is more mountainous than ever. As a result, he hasn’t got much patience for a leisurely interview, but a grumpy Diplo is still capable of an entertaining chat. “U guys always get me fuckin last after 10 people from college zines,” he replies to inthemix later on Twitter. “At least u didnt ask about MIA this time!” With “I don’t give a fuck” his eternal mantra, the tireless DJ-producer gave us a whirlwind insight into his livewire life.

Hey Wes, how are you?
Yeah, I’m okay. I’m in the studio and now I’m trying to get this interview done so I can get back to work.

Well that’s fair enough. What are you working on at the moment?
Just some mad shit, man. We just did a record for Skrillex’s album that went real late yesterday and now we’re doing some catch-up stuff for Major Lazer. I just got a vocal back from Pharrell so I gotta mix that today. I’m also working on my own Diplo single which is sounding kinda housey. And then I’ve got to do a Bloody Beetroots remix that I promised them. Oh, and a Nero remix. So all that shit’s due in pretty much 24 hours.

Right, you’re definitely busy. Whenever I talk to you you’re working with someone really unexpected and doing other crazy stuff. That kind of stuff that would’ve shocked a lot of people five years ago but now it’s just your day to day schedule. What’s it been this year? You’ve done stuff with Beyonce, Datsik, Usher, right?
Don’t forget Tiesto.

You can never forget Tiesto.
Yeah, never forget Tiesto. He’s like the September 11th of DJs. Never forget, dude.

So what is it that draws you to these people? Or are they actively coming after you now?
Well Skrillex hit me up because he’s a homie from out here in California. With the Usher thing – he hit me up through my management and he really likes my Florida album. I don’t know what the fuck’s up with that album but we did some awesome stuff together.

The Pharrell stuff came up because I met him at a party and we just vibed and went into the studio for a couple of days. It’s good to finally get that song done now since it’s been about a year trying to make it. It’s fucking sick, though. He did one of the best rap records that I’ve heard in about a year and a half…it’s him rapping. The hook is amazing.

And that’s for the next Major Lazer record?
Yeah, that’s right.
