As well as bringing seasoned favourites like Tiesto, Calvin Harris and Carl Cox back our way, this year’s Stereosonic bill also boasts some exciting fresh faces. So for our second Stereosonic live preview, we’re having a closer look at those touching down on Australian soil for the first time: Krewella, Zedd, Dillon Francis, Nina Kraviz and Club Cheval. Of course, it’s French wonder Gesaffelstein’s first time too, but we already had an in-depth look at him and his Bromance partner Brodinski in our first live preview. Dive in!
Krewella may be one of the newer names on the Stereosonic bill, but they’ve proven that time is no barrier to carving out a big presence on the bass scene. With energetic production, an obvious predilection for all things party-oriented, strong female vocals and big dubstep breakdowns, the US trio have tapped into the sound of the moment and made it their own. Since dropping their debut video Killin’ It earlier this year, Krewella have racked up a cool 80,000+ fans on Facebook and joined the lineup of Electric Zoo NYC, Spring Awakening Festival in their hometown Chicago as well as scoring a swag of North American club dates. Now, they’re headed our way.
In June, they dropped their debut EP Play Hard: six thumping tracks made for a sweaty festival set. One third of the outfit Kris Trindl put the philosophy behind the Play Hard EP succinctly: “If it's between 100BPM to 170 BPM, we'll figure out a way to make it work and have a good time with it." What’s more, the crew seemed pretty excited to be headed our way. “HAY MOTHAFUCKAZ WE'RE GOIN DOWN UNDER,” they blasted on Facebook after the big Stereo reveal. We reckon it’s safe to say they’re going to come packing a pounding set.
