After a devoted year in the studio perfecting a new album, The Aston Shuffle is back on the road with a buffed-up live show to christen new single, Can’t Stop Now. So far, the boys have ticked off Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne, and they agreed to share their journey with inthemix.

Rocket Bar, Adelaide

“This was the first date of the tour with our newly revamped show so we were pretty nervous but extremely excited about the gig at the same time. We’ve been playing at The Proj3cts party for a while now, so we knew the party was going to be great, but when we landed the gods were against us – it was raining quite heavily and apparently it was snowing on Mount Eden for the first time in 100 years, so it added to the nerves a little!

We arrived at the club about an hour or so before we were due to hit the stage and the club was absolutely jumping. Support act Tigerilla had the crowd well excited and by the time we started playing you could feel they definitely were ready for it. We played four brand new songs which got huge reactions, and even with a few minor technical difficulties the show went extremely well and has set the tone for the rest of the tour.”

Villa Nightclub, Perth

“We must admit there was a fair amount of expectation going into this show – on the last national tour we did earlier in the year this show in particular was seriously amazing. Villa Nightclub is a decent sized venue but the way it’s set up still has a very intimate feeling, which is a rare and wonderful thing.

As soon as we landed we had to buy some new USB hubs, since the one we had been using decided to die in the middle of our show the night before. While we were on hunt for the hubs we came across this incredibly well-named music store. For those of you who know us I’m sure you’ll find this a little amusing.

We got to the venue pretty early to check out Crooked Colours & Sun City – both of these bands are just awesome and played really well. I think at one stage Vance and I both looked at each other and thought we’re really going to have to lift our game tonight! Just as we were about to walk on stage the music stopped and the lights went black.

The crowd was chanting our name so we knew this was going to be a pretty special show! From start to finish the crowd was with us all the way, their hands were in the air during the breakdowns and then jumping like maniacs once the beats came back. There must be something in the water over in W.A. because everyone knows how to party and we always seem come home a little worse for wear!”

The Toff, Melbourne

“Having never played at the Toff before we really didn’t know what to expect to be honest. Our set time was at 10pm, so for anyone who’s into dance music and goes out clubbing fairly regularly, this time of the night is usually spent getting ready. So as you might expect the venue didn’t really start to fill up until close to our set time, which is a bit of a shame because a heap of people missed out on the amazing sets from Tin Lion, Clubfeet and 96 Bulls (but it’s OK, because we’re pretty sure you will be hearing all about them soon enough!).

So once the curtains went back and the intro started, we walked out and I gotta say the vibe in that room was pretty damn electric. You know it’s a good show if a security guard needs to stand at the front of the stage to stop people rushing you. The Toff crowd sang the lyrics to the songs they knew and danced even harder to the ones they didn’t. We’ve got a lot of love for you Melbourne and you certainly didn’t let us down. Next stop on the tour – our respective hometowns, Canberra and Sydney!”

The Aston Shuffle tour rolls on to:

19th October – Academy, Canberra
20th October – The Standard, Sydney
26th October – Elsewhere, Gold Coast
27th October – Valley Fiesta, Brisbane
