After ten years of hard work, determination and respect; prominent Adelaide female Dj JosH has secured a spot as one of the headlining dj’s at this years “Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi-Gras” to be held Saturday March 1st.
1984 for most of us would have been a time where some of us were barely out of nappies and an era where Australians were more interested in Aussie rock, mullet hair styles and too much blue eye shadow, but for JosH it was the beginning of a roller coaster ride on a journey to a very busy and successful career in the dance music industry.
Dj JosH; who is an icon and a founding figure in the Adelaide dance industry, and also well known for her involvement and interaction within the Gay and Lesbian community, has a musical résumé that reads like a dream for any up and coming dj. In 1995 she decided to take her musical career to a professional level and it is evident that the hard work and determination have proved to be a successful career move. JosH has established herself as one of this country’s most sought after and talented dj’s.
Over the past nineteen years she has taken an active role in using her djing career and talent to promote and raise adequate finance to assist Adelaide in entering floats on its behalf into the Mardi Gras. She has played various recoveries in Sydney venues such as Club Delicious, King’s Cross Hotel and Sirens, also playing on regular intervals in Melbourne, Townsville and Cairns.
Having been established in the industry for such a phenomenal period of time she has out played many a venue and has played along side the likes of Sister Bliss, Ultra-Sonic, Judge Jules, Paul Van Dyke and Dave Seaman, to name a few. Playing also at successful dance events such as Enchanted Forest, Redfest, Voyager (NZ), Warehouse Wonderland and as part of the Adelaide leg of the Ministry of Sound tours.
From 1996 onwards her luck has escalated and she received a host of Awards and Nominations some including “Most Popular Female Dj” (1996-97), “Most Popular Dance Producer” (1998) also a year which saw her being inducted into the “Dance Music Industry Hall of Fame”. Now after ten long yard years of unsuccessfully trying to fulfil her ultimate ambition both on a personal and professional level to play at Mardi Gras, success has come her way and the time has arrived. This year’s theme is appropriately titled “Past, Present and Future” and who better than JosH to play her breed of ‘Hands in the air” trance. With the continuation of Mardi Gras almost coming to an end this year due to inadequate sponsorship, a new collective was formed as some new exciting sponsors came on bored and they requested Josh’s services.
JosH currently keeps a busy schedule residing at Chemistry @ Heaven II, Soda Room, Recovery @ Rise, Leroxand hosting her own radio programme on 92.7 Fresh FM in Adelaide. She regularly makes guest appearances at “Sounds on a Sunday”(Syd), “ARQ”(Syd), “Magnitude”(Melb) and “Full Circle” (Riverland). She is currently working closely in conjunction with UK producer Time Ericson who have some exciting productions in the pipeline. This year saw the release of their first single/remix release “Love Me More-dare you too” by ULTRASUN (Josh vs Ericson remix) which was released on the Ministry of Sound label. With her ten -year goal finally achieved her next one is to achieve success with a hit record.
