DJ Ali Reza is one Nima Afshar who since late 1997 has been promoting events and DJing (as DJ Buggin) for Fromage Productions in Sydney. This collective went on to put on numerous underground dance music events, two multimedia festivals as part of the Fringe Festival and several record releases.

DJ Buggin played support for Kodwo Eshun(UK), The Gentle People(UK), and the Rephlex Records tour featuring Baby Ford(UK), Cylob(UK), Mike Dred(UK) DJ Rephlex Records(UK) at the Globe in Newtown before Fromage disbanded in 1999. In 2000 DJ Buggin went on to play at numerous events and started a club night ‘Beats Bar’ that ran for a year at the Blue Flame Lounge in Pyrmont. That year he won 3D World’s Runner Up Best New DJ award and went on to perform other events including the 3D World room supporting Internationals MJ Cole(UK), Bomb the Bass(UK) and Roots Manuva(UK). In 2001 he played directly after Squarepusher(UK/Warp/Rephlex Records) at Frigid’s 5th Birthday. In 2003 he played at Lorna’s electro night and Funk Trust also promoting the Infamous ‘Atari Nights’ that year at the Martin Place Dendy which was a huge success and narrowly missed a lawsuit for illegal use of the name.

DJ Buggin played his last gig ‘Chutzpah’ at the Basement in 2004 before changing his name to DJ Ali Reza. He has continued to play gigs at Frigid, Boogie Down at Candy’s Apartment and various underground parties around Sydney. The most recently gig of note was support for Boom Bip(UK/Lex Records) at Frigid’s 8thBirthday @Newtown. DJ Ali Reza continues to play genre bending sets and is currently promoting the Big Soup parties.
