NORTH COAST MUSIC ENTHUSIAST NOODLES has been behind the decks for 8 years, although he has been collecting records for almost twice as long. His career started in radio production & presenting, which spawned an obsession with knobs & faders and introduced him to the sounds of jazz, dub, funk & fusion. These beginnings married with a love of hip hop & house music, have led to an unusual style and diverse repertoire.
Moving to Lismore in 1998, Pete united with two friends, Gab & Jeremy to form a local production company – Tribe 187. Together they put on the infamous fresh silver beats nights @ the Gollan Hotel, a small overcrowded room that saw artists like Kid Kenobi, Mark Walton & dj Jay play to appreciative north coast ears for the first time. These early forays into promotion gave the tribe crew the opportunity to hone their skills & build solid reputations as party dj’s & promoters. Noodles picked up a couple of key residencies soon after, most importantly the Carpark nightclub on Friday nights & the Mile High Club, which cemented his reputation as a dj that could not just make your bum wiggle, but keep your head interested as well.
Now a regular fixture on the north coasts & Brisbane lineups, noodles fails to fall into any strict musical genre, playing a range of music from across the board, hip hop & breaks through to house & techno. This variety in style & consistent attention to detail with his sets has seen him booked at most events in & around Byron Bay as well as regular visits up and down the coast. In Sydney he is a resident at both funktrust and good vibrations, and has been a graduate of the infamous tweekin’. In Melbourne he has played at larger venues like seven, as well as premier underground venues honytonks, revolver & the croft institute. He has been a guest on triple j’s mix up, holds down a residency at Brisbanes moonbar & the Gold Coast’s Berlin Bar. He is also the dj that has been called upon to support artists like Dj Shadow, Adam Freeland, Tipper, Dynamo Productions, DJ Krush, Mark Rae and The Herbaliser.
Being a vinyl junkie and musically obsessive has kept him busy during the daylight hours as well. A broad range of musical knowledge extending beyond dance based material, saw him working behind the counter at music bizarre in Lismore for two years before he moved to the coast early in 2000 to manage Byron’s first dedicated vinyl outlet spin record bar. In his spare time he presents a show on community radio bay fm with fellow beat digger Dave Atkins, is a guest lecturer at the north coast united dj mixing school & is involved in co-ordinating & promoting north coast events.
