Noodles and Noel Boogie put together this slamming mixtape with over 60 tracks. If funked up hip hop is your thing, then you better get listening…
NOODLES
Noodles has been behind the decks for 8 years, although he has been collecting records for almost twice as long. His career started in radio production and presenting, which spawned an obsession with knobs and faders and introduced him to the sounds of jazz, dub, funk and fusion. Moving to the NSW north coast in 93, and forming local production company Tribe 187, he was responsible for organising some of the first hip hop based gigs in the area, as well as getting the opportunity to hone his skills and build a solid reputation as a DJ that could not just make your bum wiggle, but keep your head interested as well. He went on to become a regular fixture on the north coasts and Brisbane lineups, holding down residencies at the Carpark, Verve, La La Land and C-Moog in Byron, and Rics (the infamous 8 hour set), Mantra, the Empire and Family in Brisbane. While preferring smaller clubs, he is also just as comfortable on festival line ups, playing Good Vibrations and Summafieldayze, Livid, Splendour in the Grass, Two Tribes and Earthcore. Relocating to Sydney, he also makes regular appearances at Funktrust, Boogie Down, Sounds on Sunday and Chinese Laundry, as well as Honkytonks, Revolver, Seven and Croft in Melbourne.
NOEL BOOGIE
Noel Boogie has been spinning in the clubs for 3 years now, and more recently moved into production. He grew up in Byron Bay, which exposed him to many alternative ways of looking at lifestyle and music. Moving to Brisbane for a while, he spun at places like Rics, The Empire, Press Club, Rumpus Room, and in 04 moved back to Byron and started getting seriously into a 4 turntable routine with Noodles. They would rock C-Moog for 5 hours with 4 turntables… supporting some heavy DJs like Cash Money, DJ Craze, Peanut Butter Wolf, Roc Raida, Herbalizer and many more. In 2005 Noel moved to Sydney, focusing on production with several tracks getting air time on Triple J’s Groove Train and FBI radio. In Sydney he has regular gigs at The Loft, Chinese Laundry and Tonic.
You can catch Noodles and Noel Boogie playing at Dust Tones on Saturday April 21 at Manning Bar, Sydney Uni. They appear alongside Katalyst, Hermitude, Rephrase, Mark Walton, Bentley and much more.
