Jon Sa Trinxa is as integral to Ibiza’s chill out scene as hammocks and the sunset. One of the island’s favorite adopted sons; he has become an institution DJing at the Sa Trincha bar on the glamorous Playa Salinas (a favourite haunt of the likes of Jade Jagger and Kate Moss). But Jon’s first taste of Ibiza was about as far from the carefree atmosphere of Salinas as could be imagined.

After leaving the UK in 1994, disillusioned with the UK party scene and affected by his mother’s death, Jon headed for Ibiza with nothing but a sound system and a big record collection. However plagued by setbacks on route, he eventually arrived on the island flat broke, minus his passport, sound system and records and bleeding, after being hit by a car. A fairly soul-crushing beginning to any adventure, we think you’ll agree.

Luckily, however, proceedings soon took a turn for the better, as Jon was offered a lift by a total stranger, who happened to be the owner of the Sa Trinxa bar at Salinas. By enormous coincidence, when Jon arrived he discovered that his sound system and records had also miraculously arrived at the same bar! He slept on the beach that night, and the next day, when the regular DJ failed to report for duty, Jon was asked to get his records and fill in. The rest, as they say, is history.
