The Cartel are the most explosive DJ duo Sydney has produced for years! Each goading the other into ever higher levels of wildly ridiculous, over-the-top booty shaking mayhem. Dan Coy and Mr Pez have both been influential forces in the Sydney and international dance music scene.

Dan Coy is an experienced dance-music producer. He has been signed to German and UK labels, toured the world and spent way too long locked away in studios, between bouts of limousine cruising and fueling dance floor frenzies. Mr Pez has a history as one of Sydney’s electronic party pioneers and has been responsible for many infamous parties in Sydney’s warehouses, back alleys and greener pastures. As a practicing artist and aesthete, he makes sure that the Cartel not only sound but also look good.

After several years of occasional forays behind the decks, the pair started to DJ together to welcome in 2007 at Peats Ridge Festival, and have been raising a storm ever since with their wild ‘behind the decks’ antics, ‘superfly pimping’ dress sense and storming party tunes. Trying to describe The Cartel sound is no easy task given the diversity of the material they play. From Bhangra to Baile Funk, Twisted J-pop to electro to German Dancehall – nothing is off-limits – as long as it has the dancefloor heaving and the booty shaking. Bass-heavy party tunes punctuated with wild ‘Cartel’ and classic dancehall samples played live. Not to mention a rollercoaster verging on riotous DJ-ing style.

We are talking cutting edge dance beats – whether produced in Jamaica, Brooklyn or Berlin – this is utterly contemporary music. It’s not an endless succession of faceless, generic cardboard cut out tunes. There are choruses, and breakdowns, and even (!!!) melodies! And the laydiez love ‘em…
