Born in Melbourne, Steve Strangis is one of the city’s most popular DJs and possibly Australia’s best trance DJ. With a career spanning nearly 10 years, starting off as a mobile DJ for birthday parties, he quickly moved in to the nightclub and rave scene in the late 90s. Strangis is now one of the first of the next new generation of Australian DJs pushing trance music in a hard trance and electro dominated scene. Always known to be very choosy about the records he plays, Steve’s style is described as melodic, with a strong, emotive vibe. As charismatic as he is behind the decks, Steve has always managed to keep his sets interesting, captivating and less predictable.
Once classed as the Jon O’Bir of Australia, Steve has supported the best of the best in the world of trance, including favourites like Armin Van Buuren, John 00 Fleming, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, M.I.K.E, Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, Adam White, Scott Bond, Christopher Lawrence, Gareth Emery, Markus Shultz, Cosmic Gate and many more. He’s also played at massive dance events such as Gods Kitchen, Gatecrasher, Slinky, Two Tribes, Summadayze and Advenjah Festival. But it doesn’t stop there for this young protégée, having been chosen to play as the only local DJ in the main arena at events such as Two Tribes and Godskitchen, and also given the honor to play the closing set after Armin Van Buuren at his White Party in 2007.
Strangis has his eyes set on bigger projects and goals in his exciting music career, having progressed to working in the studio. His productions, such as ‘Vatican 7’, have been played by Matt Hardwick, Scott Bond, Adam White, Jose Amnesia and Above & Beyond. Strangis has also started various projects for world class record labels and is working hard with fellow Melbournite Robert Anthony on various projects. As a testament to his hard work and popularity, Strangis made the inthemix50 DJ Poll in 2007, coming in at #19 in Australia and #7 for Victoria.
