Polaris began his musical journey at the tender of 10, undergoing professional training in Indian classical music, his favourite instrument being the tabla (Indian drums). From that point on music has been at the forefront of his life. Faced with cultural and language barriers after migrating to Australia in the mid 90s, Polaris saw music as an outlet to connect with other people in a strange country, using it as a way to form new friendships. While trying to find a genre of music he could connect with, Polaris stumbled upon a mix CD from drum & bass legend LTJ Bukem. The rest, as they say, is history.
Polaris soon started mixing and playing as a DJ around Sydney, with highlights such as playing alongside TeeBee, Bad Company, Ray Keith and Trace, to name a few. In early 2000 Polaris and DJ Cause formed a musical partnership and launched their drum & bass night in Sydney called Evolve, which ran successfully for years. With DJ Cause moving into new directions musically, Polaris still felt the itch to plug away on the Sydney scene, and so soon started his own drum & bass night in The Cross called Galaxy of Drums, bringing out artists such as Breakage, Black Sun Empire, Dylan and Tech Itch.
What can you expect from a Polaris mix? In his own words, “I try to tell a story in all my mixes. A story that takes people on a journey into places far, far away”. Still going strong in the Sydney drum & bass scene, he plays with crews like DNBBQ, 4th Quadrant, Kobra Kai and Fam, so expect to hear more from this inspired DJ.
