The Japanese Popstars are not actually Japanese, but over the last 12 months the three piece from Derry (Northern Ireland) have had their foot down on the Onioshi Highway to Stardom.
The boys of Japanese Popstars built a cult like following from their energetic epic live shows at festivals and residencies up and down the Emerald Isle. The accolades soon followed. This year they where voted ‘Best Live Dance Act in Ireland’ (Irish Dance Awards).
The momentum followed them over the Irish sea when Pete Tong selected their stunning signature track ‘Sample Whores’ as his prestigious ‘Essential Selection’. This opened the international door and they where soon picked up ‘A’ grade live agents ITB (Soulwax, Aerosmith, Bob Dillon etc) which in turn and lead to support performances form the like of the Klaxons & Hadouken.
Their productions have been lorded as reminiscent of the early works of the Chemical Brothers and Orbital. There is an undoubted buzz about these guys, and ‘We Just Are’ their first artist album is hotly anticipated by those in the know.
The Japanese Popstars tour Australia for the first time in November as part of Stereosonic.
