Relish Record’s label boss Robi Insinna records under the aliases of Headman and Manhead, and was at the forefront of the punk-funk/disco movement alongside contemporaries DFA Records, Output Recordings and Kitsune. His highly acclaimed debut album ‘It Rough’ was released in 2003 on influential Munich label Gomma, and was followed in 2006 by his second long player ‘On’ which featured collaborations with Stephen Dewaele of Soulwax and Matt Safer of The Rapture.
The new Headman album ‘Catch Me’ continues this progression, combining Robi’s trademark sound with more sophisticated songwriting and composition. The result is 12 original tracks including the singles ‘Dreampieces’ featuring vocals from Jeremy Kerr of A Certain Ratio and percussion from Liquid Liquid’s Denis Young, ‘Running Into Time’ featuring Don Cash, and ‘Catch Me if You Can’ featuring long-term collaborator Tara, who also sung on ‘It Rough’ and ‘On & On’. The whole album was written and recorded in Robi’s Berlin studio, and then mixed at the legendary Hansa studios, where the likes of David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Japan and Iggy Pop recorded in the past. He’s currently working on new music with Yello’s Dieter Meier.
Meanwhile, Robi is a highly sought after remixer, having provided remixes for Franz Ferdinand, The Gossip, Chromeo, Roxy Music and many more, and away from the recording studio, is also a much in demand DJ, playing clubs and festivals worldwide, alongside the likes of 2 Many DJs, Tiga and Erol Alkan.
