From his debut in 1986 Russ Dewbury has become one of the most influential and, highly respected figures on the international dance music scene. Based in Brighton UK for over 20 years and now resident in Sydney, Australia, Dewbury is one of the top DJ’s on the circuit and has developed a substantial reputation as live music promoter, record compiler, radio broadcaster and composer/ producer.
One of the original UK jazz DJ’s, Russ has performed at many top clubs and festivals worldwide and enjoys a hectic touring schedule. He recently become the first international dj to be awarded a Distinguished Talent Visa for permanent residency in Australia with support from the likes of Carl Cox and Gilles Peterson. Dewbury has run the longest running club session in the world. The Brighton ‘Jazz Rooms’ opened in February 1987 and 21 years later has become one of the most successful sessions in club history running consecutively in Brighton, featuring all over the globe and now in 2008 succesfully launched as a regular new night for Sydney.
Now a full resident in Australia, Russ looks forward to developing his DJ career, his Jazz Rooms and Jazz Bop concepts as well as acting as a musical hub between the two hemispheres. Russ plays the The Smirnoff Mule Lounge @ the Fringe Bar, Bringing Old Hollywood to Sydney for one night only, on Thursday 20 November.
