It’s your typical DJ meets DJ love story: after hooking up at a competition in the winter of 2005, Tod Hodge and Chris Elliott combined their mutual appreciation for ill sounds and set about making music. The result? Stupid Fresh. Fast forward to 2008 and the ‘Fresh are nailing the download charts with an orgy of mucky basslines and big filthy beats.
Two releases on Vacation Records, ‘Get The Fuck Up’ (number one on download charts) and ‘Stretch The Canvas’ – which featured on Dave Spoon’s ‘Toolroom Knights’ compilation – set the tone for a massive ‘08. Remixes for Micky Slim’s Bombsquad Records, DJ Dan, The Loose Cannons and Nick Supply were spanked on dancefloors across the land and the release of their own Sticky Fingers EP in October saw all four tracks reach the djdownload.com top ten simultaneously.
But faceless producers Stupid Fresh are not – the lads from Leeds are also a dastardly duo behind the decks. Whether spinning in Los Angeles, Milan, Toronto, touring in Australia, headlining a 2,000 capacity event in San Francisco, or mixing it with the best at Judgement Sundays in Ibiza two weeks on the bounce. Stupid Fresh don’t just know how to rock a party – they are the party.
