“I wouldn’t say I am in demand that much. DJ’ing isn’t a job to me, it’s a hobby,” said Paul Harding, the DJ known as El Hornet who founded Pendulum with Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, when inthemix interviewed him way back in the summer of 2003.

More than eight years have passed since that interview and, as we all know, Harding and Pendulum definitely are in demand. Indeed, Harding just played the Urban Art Forms Festival in Austria over the weekend, with a few thousand fans screaming like banshees in front of him.

But though Pendulum’s star has risen to astronomical heights over the years, one thing that clearly hasn’t changed is Harding’s feelings about DJing as El Hornet. To that point, this mix is a demonstration of how, as well as being his ‘job’ now, it’s still his hobby and passion. Out of the blue, ITM HQ contacted the Pendulum team in pursuit of an exclusive mix from one of Australia’s biggest electronic exports and they were happy to oblige, despite having no forthcoming album or tour on the horizon or really anything new to promote. They just did it. And we’re pretty stoked they did.
