From today until the She Can DJ final on Wednesday 14 September, inthemix will be turning the spotlight on the DJing prowess of the final ten. After kicking off our ITM-FM mix series with Gabby, next up is a name you’ll often find on festival posters – UK expat turned Sydney-based DJ Helena.

“I moved over from the UK close to five years ago, but I’ve been playing for eight years,” Helena tells inthemix. “I started DJing initially as a hobby. The music was my passion, so I started mixing. As more gigs came to the table, I realised I could make a career out of it. Australia’s been great – within a few months of launching here, I was playing pretty much every big club in the country. So fast forward to today and here we are.”

As a DJ, Helena’s sound moulds to the situation she finds herself in. Progressive house, electro and mainroom sounds are all part of her repertoire, ensuring she’s always flat-out on the club circuit.
